finished 2 weeks of Ciprofloxacin without success
Doctor just prescribed another round. Helped initially, and felt pretty decent after finishing the cipro, but then symptoms came right back. Also noticing a purplish-color right inside the urethral orifice and what might be some small growth. I'm not liking that at all. The whole tip of the penis is sensitive to the touch and painful. Anybody else experience anything like this? Have a appt. on Monday to have it checked.
At my regular GP, turns out there is no discernible growth. He said the purplish color I'm seeing is likely a vein that for whatever reason has become more prominent - perhaps a function of whatever is going on with my system trying to fight an infection?
Thanks again for asking...I'll post back later.

How did your appointment go? That growth you mention is odd
I was initially put on a month of cipro followed by 2 months of Septra (bactrim)
It seem antibiotics initially can provide an anti inflammatory effect but it doesn’t last.

Re: finished 2 weeks of Ciprofloxacin without success
Hi rb....thanks for reaching out to me. Just had the urologist appt. today. He said that sometimes the longer term use of tamsulosin becomes ineffective for some people. He wants to do (another) cystoscopy plus an ultrasound of the prostate. Also I'm going back on Friday for a uroflow test (YEA...get to drink 32 ounces of water than pee into the special device that measures it). I seem to recall doing this years ago. He wants blood work done too.
So..on it goes. He said to finish the cipro, but I'm not hopeful for any additional improvement. It's so weird how the symptoms fluctuate from day to day. Yesterday I would have said I'm cleared up. Can't help but wonder if this is a 'chronic' situation. See what the cystoscopy shows.

Re: finished 2 weeks of Ciprofloxacin without success
your history sounds similar to mine
I started with the old prostatitis no infection diagnosis.
Flomax (tamsulosin) did not help me at all.
I to had a urodynamics test which showed a high amount of residual urine and straining atbladder neck
I ended up having TURP surgery which has helped my flow enough that I have not required catheterization since
Do all the tests, rule out anything obvious.
Wish you healing

I know my urologist discussed TURP (or some similar procedure) early on when I started going, but then felt that I was doing well enough with the tamsulosin. Thanks for the well wishes...right back at ya
