Hi, my issues started about a month ago interested in your thoughts.

I’m 39 I had a UTI burning when urinating and cloudy / smelly pee. diagnosed as Ecoli had 7 days of macrobid. 2 days after finishing antibiotics symptoms returned again another 7 days of macrobid and again after finishing the symptoms returned in 3 days this time with penile discharge. This time I’m on 28 days of cypro 14 days in I went for an ultrasound and diagnosed with urine retention and an enlarged prostate. Dr did the digital rectal exam but did not have any pain or lumps. UTI symptoms cleared up after 2 days but still have a bit of lower abdomen discomfort. Today I’ve had bloods done to check my PSA levels waiting results.

How long has it taken for bacterial Prostatitis to clear on Cipro and could it be anything else?
Anyone had similar symptoms and how did they cure it? Obviously at the back on my mind is cancer need some reassurance it’s not!!

So my PSA came back as 3.35 and apparently that high for my age so I’m being referred to a urologist for further tests.

I haven't had my PSA levels checked yet. I tried Cipro at the prescription of a urologist for several days and I felt like I was on the verge of being sick with the flu. It reduced symptoms a little at the most. So I stopped after about 4-6 days. I've considered trying it again. My symptoms at the time were perineum pain, some other pelvic pains (less frequent than the perineum pain), allodynia / dysesthesia / paresthesia in my pelvis and abs / back / legs, urinary retention, urinary frequency and urgency increases, leaking, and pelvic tension. Now I'm going to physical therapy for myofascial trigger point release. In the past year I started having burning during urination, which, after I went to physical therapy a few times, went away.

I haven't tried other abx yet. I've never tested positive for pathogens in any basic urine culture either. I can't afford the MicroGenDX tests (PCR and DNA) unless my insurance covers it. I think abx are an unreliable solution.

Do you ever abnormal sensation (not pain)? I'm considering having an MRI or other scan done of my abs and pelvis. If you're concerned about potential cancer, you might look into that.

Yes I did have a ‘pain’ under my scrotum but that has gone with the antibiotics, my urine flow seems a bit better these last few days I still have 7 days of Cipro remaining.

I’ve had no unpleasant side effects from taking Cipro or any of the other antibiotics for that matter.

I’ve now got an appointment next thurs for more tests I guess.

HiRoller, it’s normal for PSA to be higher with prostate infection or inflammation. Nothing to be concerned about at this point. Personally I would not have gone to a Urologist for a score as low as yours. My opinion, but I would not go to a Urologist at all unless I had exhausted all remedies from a general practitioner. As I have said many times over specialists exist to perform tests if needed that your GP can’t do. You will get a better level of treatment from a GP at this early stage.
