Post subject:  PSA score for 34 year old?

Apparently I have a slightly larger than average prostate for some of my age, 34. Doctor told me I had a slightly enlarged prostate, although he did say it was extremely smooth. What should be my PSA score roughly, keeping in mind that I do have a slightly larger prostate?

There really isn’t a standard score. I’m over 60 and my past 5 test scores have been between 0.92 and 1.04. Keep in mind I have had numerous bouts of prostatitis over the past 20 years. In approximately 1996 I had a PSA test in the middle of a terrible bout of prostatitis a day after urinating what looked like straight blood and my score was only a bit over 2.0. Another person could have a score 5 times higher and mean absolutely nothing. The point is don’t focus so much on what the score is but do some reading and research of the test beforehand.

Hmmm ok but then how would they know if they, say, needed to refer me for further tests?

If it’s 4.0 or higher they will more than likely want to redo it in 3 months. There is more than one type of PSA test. They might want to do a more detailed PSA if it’s 4 or greater or might just wait 3 months to redo it. As an option you can do what I do and go to private labs or a similar service and have your own test done. No need for a Dr to be involved if you want to do a different test. Cost is reasonable and you will get the results as quick or quicker than what you have done through your Dr.

At 36yo mine was 0.4. My uro indicated that was 100% normal for my age.
