Post Undiagnosed Prostatis
Hello,

Im 46 years of age and haven't had any previous prostate problems. For the past 2 months Ive had some intermittent penile discomfort near the base of the penis and occasionally near the corona area. Ive discussed it with my family doctor, but he doesn't think its related to the prostate and gave me some steroid cream to put on the areas that im experiencing discomfort. I generally feel the discomfort while I'm sitting. I haven't had any of the classics symptoms of Prostatitis. I have read online that that if the prostate is inflamed or enlarged that it could put pressure on this area. I have occasionally had some discomfort in my testicles (not as often) and in the bum area (not as often either) as well. Im curious if anyone else has had penile discomfort with Prostatitis?

more than likely a pelvic floor issue than a prostate issue. Go get a pelvic floor assessment from a qualified physio.

So this could be the cause of the intermittent penis pain? its mainly on the left side near the base on the shaft and on the right side near the corona. Last year i had a couple of episodes of Proctalgia fugax as well. Hamstrings are tight too. Only bothers me really when sitting. Standing, running and laying down aren't bothersome. Epsom salt baths temporarily relieve it as well.

Also had proctalgia fugax a few times, it is terrible when it happens. Have to sit on the edge of a bathtub just for the pain to ease up.

Seems like gut flora issues can cause prostatitis in some cases, especially in my case. Some of us might be dealing with a combination of things though.

do you take probiotics for it? mine started up at the end of June and lasted till Mid July and then started back up about 2 weeks ago. I had about 2 weeks of no symptoms.

I've been taking Xifaxan, which is an antibiotic for SIBO. Somehow it also seems to be helping my prostate as well.

I plan to add strong probiotics, I'll probably start tonight to see if the combination has an effect. It usually takes a few weeks to be able to tell though, gotta start somewhere I guess.

I get penile pain typically at the head,

Did your Doctor perform DRE? Insert his finger in your bum to examine your prostate? This is how Prostatitis is diagnosed because it will feel tender to them.

When is your follow up? If the pain does not go away by then then insist on a referral to a Urologist.

Thanks for the replies. At my appointment last week he didn't check the prostate. I have an appointment later this week and im going to ask to have it checked. Do you have any other symptoms? Mine are intermittent and usually only when i sit for a while.

That's strange. Usually from my experience , the first thing they would examine is the prostate and then arrange for blood and urinary tests.

The severity of my symptoms vary on a daily basis which is why it may feel intermittent to you. Just try your best

It was about 2 months from when my pain started and i saw the specialist and googled every single one of my symptons. I shortlisted about 5 things I thought it would be but didn't expect or even know about Prostatis until the urologist diagnosed me.

Do insist on a Urologist especially if you are in the UK. It will probably be around 6-12 weeks before you get to see one on the NHS if you are relying on that.

Well I went to the Dr today. He did the DRE and said that my Prostate was slightly enlarged. Also did labs to check my PSA, urinalysis and prescribed me some Flomax. Also said that I have BPH. The funny thing is that 2 days ago I took 1 Motrin tablet (200mg) on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and my symptoms have greatly been reduced. Possibly helping with the inflammation is my guess? I'm retired military in the USA so labs usually take several days to come back. My PSA levels have always been around 0.8 and he said if they were crazy high that he would refer me to a Urologist, but he didn't expect that. There isn't any family history of Prostate problems. Hopefully this was just some isolated incident. I had switched to cycling in the spring from running and I'm thinking this may have attributed to it as well as working behind a computer for my job. Who knows.
