Post Suggestions ?
Hello Everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with prostatitis. Yesterday actually - first time prognosis.

My doctor prescribed an antibiotic for 3 weeks. It seems quite mild right now. I have had only slight discomfort with masturbation and errections. It has passed though. Some discomfort while I sit here and type this message. I've noticed I awake often during the night to pee (as far back as I can remember this has been a problem for me) and as well my stream is very inconsistent. Its not steady (as long as I can remember this has always been the case).

I am 25 years old.

I'm not certain my antibiotic will get to the source of the problem.

I have been reading on this forum and have specifically noticed people commenting about dairy / caffeine intake. I definitely know I can cut back on my dairy intake... I am a fitness guru and I eat a lot of yogurt.Bbut at this point I'm only having one regular sized coffee every morning. Is this harmful?

As well, I do A LOT of exercise. A program called Insanity (its a home workout) and it has a lot of plymetrics (jumping) and squatting. I do this daily. Could this possibly be the cause of my prostatitis?

I have been under a lot of stress lately, I recently wrote the law school entrace exam and my girlfriend moved to a different city.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Stress and Caffeine can definitely play a role. The Insanity workout would increase blood flow and circulation to the prostate. The physical workouts will show benefits, not a hindrance. What led to an onset to your prostatitis?

There is uncertainty at this point... The doctor didn't really say. Stress ? Too much exercise ?

I'm not too certain. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt a very strange sense of discomfort when I had an erection, so it prompted me to visit the doctor, which eventually led to the prostatitis diagnosis. I had other issues like pressure in my back, urgency to urinate, abdomen pain, among some small other things.

At this point, no known cause...

Also, are there any exercises that are particularly bad for the prostate ?

I do a lot of abdomen exercises. Like sit ups, etc.

Same thing happened with me. Popped up out of nowhere after a very stressful 2-3 month period for me. I met a girl whom I knew slightly through people in college and started dating. Had sex for the first time and a few days later, symptoms popped up. Both got tested for STD's and both were negative.

Not sure how all of this happened, but I tend to think it has to be my girlfriend. I was the healthiest person I knew before all of this. My diet was great, I exercised 5-6 days a week, took vitamin and other supplements, drank once a week and got 8 hours of sleep a night. Then all of a sudden this pops up and has been with me for about 7 months out of the past year.

I have a girlfriend in my life too. But we have been having sex for roughly 7 months so I don't think that is the cause. I'm quite certain we are both clean. This sprouted up in the last 2 weeks or so.

I think it has something to do with stress. The doctor has assigned Cipro to me and it seems to be working...

Funnily enough, I also caught my prostate problems during a period of intense stress. Coincidence? I'm not sure.

There was definitely an infection element involved though (my girlfriend gave me an STD) but I do often wonder whether the stress aggravated things and turned what should have been a routine clean-up with antibiotics into a longer-term issue.

I believe stress caused mine too, My wife was is rehab for 3 months and I was at home with the kids and VERY stressed about. About 1 1/2 months into her being there that is when my frequesnt urination started. I since have de-stressed quite a bit but the frequent need to urinate is still present.. grrrrr...

Davyboy,
I too am a fitness buff(personal trainer) Also, i am very familiar with the insanity dvds. I had been to four urologists, ultrasounds, mris, urine cultures, blood work. All normal. I then found a book called a headache in the pelvis which actually focuses on prostatits symptoms brought on by a tight pelvic floor. I am only throwing this out to you because you exercise so much. In some cases of prostatitis, particularly mine (because i worked out 5 days a week, and played socceer two days a week) was caused by my pelvic floor muscles becoming to firm, not an actual infection. In other words, those muscles surround the prostate and bladder and they can pull on those organs, thus, manifesting pain, sexual, urinary symptoms. Get the book. I began doing PT and basically restretching those pelvic floor musces (not fun). Had to go a pelvic floor specialist and get a finger up my butt and procedure known as thieling. Since then, my symptoms have diminished significantly. I too, in the early months, took antibiotics but had minimal relief. I hope they work for you. But, if they dont consider the muscular/skeletal component. It would make a lot of sense being you exercise so much and "insanely." Insanity is no joke. Also, stress manifested my symptoms big time. I believe my symptoms were brought on equally by overexercising (creating a tight pelvic floor) and the stress from buying a house, getting married, and expecting a child all within one year. Good luck. If you have any questions, keep me posted!
Rob
