they have ever been on fosftomycin. It seems to have good penetration into the prostate. ... is2014.pdf

"Despite its being in use for many years, fosfomycin–tro- metamol continues to have a low incidence of E. coli resis- tant strains (1–3%) worldwide. Fosfomycin–trometamol has retained its activity against quinolone-resistant strains of E. coli and cross-resistance with other classes of antibiotics is at present not a problem. It is less active, however, against coagulase-negative staphylococci. The effect of fosfomycin– trometamol on the intestinal flora after the intake of a single 3-g dose has not been well established. However, because of limited exposure the effect is probably minor."

"It has been used successfully to treat recalcitrant prostati- tis caused by a vancomycin-resistant enterococcus in a patient who wished to avoid intravenous therapy. In this instance, it was administered orally once every 3 days for 3 weeks, based on the fact that therapeutic levels of the drug are known to be present in the urine for at least 36– 48 h after a single oral dose [14]. Fosfomycin–trometamol has not been approved in all European countries for use in pregnant women.
In males (prostatitis): we suggest an oral 3 g every 2– 3 days for a total of 21 days, but this requires more clinical evaluation [14,23]."
