Post Lactose fermenting colyforms in my semen
I've just been told by the Urology department at a sexual health clinic that based on a recent semen culture analysis, they've detected the presence of Lactose Fermenting Colyforms, which they say have been produced by an inflammation of the prostate. I've been suffering from prostate pain for over a year (not sure if it's prostatitis or CPPS), but this is the first I've heard of this new condition. Can someone explain to me a little more about it? What's the best treatment option? Is it likely to be a long-term problem, and could it become worse if left untreated? Many thanks everyone.

This could be the CAUSE of your prostate inflamation, rather than a result of it. Generally in your situation you would like to have the bacteria cultured and tested for antibiotic susceptibility and then from there a 6wk or longer course of antibiotics will likely be prescribed. Many men with chronic bacterial prostatitis do not fully cure the infection with antibiotics, but can send the symptoms into remission. The bacteria may regrow at a later date and another course of antibiotics would be in order. You may be cured with a single long term course of antibiotics and could find yourself symptom free. I would suggest following up with a urologist who can help you treat your condition. I am not sure whether it would be likely to get worse or stay relatively the same without treatment, but you will probably not get better without antibiotics. There are lots of resources on the web to help you understand what your condition is, and options you have moving forward. Just google Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis.
Good luck
